In 1939 Britain declared war on Germany. By July 1940 Britain had found itself alone in this war after France and Germany signed an armistice. During the summer and autumn of 1940 the Battle of Britain took place, followed by the blitz. The blitz began on September 7th, 1940, with a heavy daylight raid on London, followed by a night raid.
