The camo net or camouflage netting came into existence in the late nineteenth century, although camouflage as a whole started a lot earlier than that. In WW I, the French were the first to use netting. It was hand painted and used to cover buildings and vehicles. The snipers even used it. With the French having a great success with it, other countries decided they would merge it into the armies. It forever changed the tactics of warfare.

Today the camo net has a lot of uses, and not just for the Armed Services. There are many uses for the camo net in the civilian arena. Hunters use the netting for hiding duck blinds, concealing their vehicles, covering up their tree stands as well. Some campers like a true to life camping experience so they use the camo net to cover up their vehicles and camp sites to help them blend more into the landscape. You can also use the netting in the back yard to hide unsightly messes. It is now even used as decoration material.

The netting, made from a strong, durable, light-weight, and water-resistant material that's made to last year after year. Since the camo net comes in such an array of sizes, colors and designs the price you pay will vary some. But as a general rule the camo net costs about as much as a standard tarp does.
